The state Senate passed a $36 billion budget in special session Monday.
Lawmakers voted 33-1 in favor of the plan. They also approved two additional measures that will actually implement the budget. The spending and tax plan, which takes effect July 1, will cover the next two years.
The budget includes no tax increases, except on cigarettes, a 9 percent spending increase and money for health care. The budget also allocates a substantial amount of money toward education.
"Greenwich will get $1 million more. Stamford will get about $1.3 million more," Sen. Andrew McDonald said about the historic education funding hike.
The House passed the budget Saturday. However, House Speaker Jim Amann said the House may be called back Thursday to vote on the remaining measures to put the budget in effect.
The budget will now go to Governor Rell (R-CT) who is expected to sign it. Related information:
