Lawyers for Michael Skakel say they're investigating a new person of interest in the killing of Martha Moxley.
Moxley was killed in 1975. Michael Skakel, a Kennedy cousin, was convicted in 2002 but is now free on bond until a new trial.
The prosecution argued that Skakel was with Moxley the day she died, and was the person who bludgeoned her to death with a golf club in Greenwich.
Attorney Stephan Seeger, who has been representing Skakel, says evidence of hairs that were found on the body are now being connected to a possible suspect who has been convicted of similar crimes and is being held in California.
He says that he was recently contacted by an attorney about a case in the New Haven area in 1977, which involved an attack on a woman with a golf club.
Seeger says the victim in the New Haven incident is still alive and they are going to interview her.
The defense team says they will not release the new suspect's identity until they interview him, or else they risk compromising their investigation.
Greenwich police say they are not aware of a new suspect in the case. Seeger says he's sent a copy of his findings to the state Attorney's Office.
