Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim is pushing hard to rebuild a bridge that would channel traffic to a $400 million downtown development project.
The new bridge would connect the East Side to downtown.
Ganim said the bridge will help support a commercial and residential development planned near the city's historic downtown theaters.
“Nothing is more important to the vibrancy of this city than this connection," said Ganim.  "It means vibrant neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown and it means jobs in the largest city in Connecticut."
Officials said the Trump administration has cut off funding for rebuilding urban infrastructure, so they have to fight for federal dollars to get the span built.
