A Legionnaires' outbreak has left five people dead in Harlem.
As health officials investigate the cause, News 12 took a look at the latest inspections of cooling towers, specifically in the Bronx.
According to data from the New York City Health Department, there are more than 300 cooling towers in the borough.
Data shows 19 towers were inspected so far this year and 206 towers were last inspected in 2024. The data also shows that more than 70 towers have not been inspected since 2023 or earlier.
According to city online records, 83 of those cooling towers were issued safety violations - 37 of those violations were flagged for not testing for the Legionella bacteria.
Cooling towers are mandated to be inspected every 30 days
