The Town of Fairfield is reminding residents that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available at local beaches throughout the year.

An AED is a device used during sudden cardiac arrest to deliver an electric shock that can help restore a normal heartbeat. The devices are designed for quick use on anyone over the age of 8.

AEDs are stationed year-round at South Pine Creek Beach, Southport Beach, Penfield Beach, Jennings Beach and Sasco Beach. When lifeguards are on duty, they also carry AEDs.

The devices are built for ease of use, with smart technology that analyzes heart rhythms once the pads are applied. If a shock is needed, the AED delivers it automatically and provides clear voice and visual instructions to guide the user step-by-step.

Each AED includes a 64-page manual, with quick instructions available on page 2.
