Two homeowners in Westport were fortunate to avoid major damage after lightning struck their properties during storms Monday evening.

One strike hit a home on Joanne Circle, sparking a small fire that was contained to a single room, firefighters said.

The second strike hit an invisible pet fence at a home on Bayberry Lane. The surge traveled along the wires and into the house, creating a risk of a major fire.
