The Stamford Police Department is taking “serving the community” to a whole new level.

Officers waited on tables, made drinks and took food orders from customers at the second annual Tip-A-Cop event at the Stamford Diner Wednesday night.

“A little different role for us," Lt. Jerry Junes says. "Normally we’re chasing the bad guys, but today we’re chasing the food."

Proceeds from the event go to the Stamford Police Activities League.

“Whenever I’ve needed them in very, very minor instances, they’ve always been here within minutes to support us," says Laura O'Brien, corporate manager of The Stamford Diner. "We want the community of Stamford to know how great they are."

Organizers say they’re hoping to make it an annual event.

“One community, one love," Lt. Junes says. "It’s all about building one strong community."
