As Connecticut locals try to understand what is happening in Afghanistan, a local group that aids refugees says it is ready to help.
The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants Community Center on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport helps local community centers provide services to help people start a new life in Bridgeport.
The organization expects to get busier soon as the number of refugees allowed in the U.S. from places like Afghanistan increases.
“We are just sitting here waiting and ready to receive refugees from Afghanistan should they come,” says Ashley Gaudiano, Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants.
Afghanistan is only one of several emergencies that leaders at the institute are preparing for.
