U.S. Rep. Jim Himes has defeated Republican state Rep. John Shaban.
Although Himes has had a difference of opinion with his fellow Democrats on some key issues, he held on to defeat Shaban.
Shaban, a Republican state representative from Redding, also broke away from his party. Shaban said he would not support Donald Trump. He also supported Connecticut's ban on assault weapons.
Shaban considered challenging Himes two years ago, but bowed out.
