Hundreds of Stratford residents lost water pressure this morning when an outdated water main burst under Route 110. Authorities with the Aquarion Water Company say the 101-year-old pipe ruptured at around 7 a.m. They say the recent rains and cold temperatures led to the break, and that 200 customers, including Sikorsky Aircraft, Homewood Suites and two senior living centers, were without water for hours. The company says fewer than 10 customers were without water by early afternoon, though many will still experience reduced water pressure throughout the evening. "It's demoralizing," says Jim Ralabate, of Stratford. "Especially, in the holiday season when people need to get things done for the holidays. It makes it very difficult." Workers say they were able to compensate for the low water pressure by strategically using fire hoses.
