Made in Connecticut: Luke's Toy Factory in Danbury

now toys r at the hearts of kids in play, especially this time of year for one. Toy maker and Danbury toys are not only about fun but also imagination. Okay, so in this week's made in Connecticut, I take you to luke's toy factory. The idea is to take things that have no useful life and give them a second life, Meet toy designer luke barber, There's a lot of like one piece already put together toys out there and then then usually the next step up is, you know, it's like 50 or 60 pieces and I kind of wanted to make something that was sort of in between those two levels of complexities. I've always been a gizmo guy, that's luke's business partner. Jim Luca just graduated college. So I said, look, take a look at this and see what you can come up with. And then a week he came up with a fire truck. There are different ways you can do it and it's wrong to do that. But is it really, you know, it's whatever you want it to be. He's also luke's dad and together with a friend mitch and his son, they make up luke's toy factory in Danbury. Here's our former design for the what luke did was design them with a little wiggle room, so you don't have to be perfect when you go to put them together so that they're forgiving in that way, creating toys for little ones driving imagination and discovery when you put them together, you have a sense of accomplishment which for a little kid is very important. Well the big thing is sawdust, you know, there's really no other use for sawdust but combine it with pure plastic and that's what luke's toys are made of. It's called wood plastic composite. We're one of the first toys to be made using this material, lets us have a material that, you know, it feels a lot like a wooden toy material repurposed and transformed in Connecticut factories. We use a company in Southington Vanguard plastics to make car parts for us company from, from Milford who makes the machine that attaches the wheels to the axles. We use the local company for our boxes, Danbury Square box in the end, providing young lives with endless opportunities for creative play. Really made in Connecticut, through and through. Yeah, all the way down the chain of of all the different suppliers and vendors that they use, which is great. It's really special.
