We made it to Friday, everybody. It's time to for Main Street, Connecticut, a chance to showcase our local towns and cities and everything they have to offer. And today we are in Norwalk. News Hill, Connecticut's Mark Sudall is at O'Neill's Irish Pub and Restaurant on North Main Street. Mark, good morning to you. Good morning to you, Aisha. We're getting you ready for Saint Patrick's Day. The Norwalk Saint Patrick's Day parade is coming up tomorrow. We've got a couple of guys here to talk to us about it. Jason Grady and Billy Ireland, uh, both with the Norwalk Police and Fire Emerald Society. Thank you so much for being with us. And, uh, Jason, give us some of the details here about Uh, when and where all this kicks off. All right, thanks for coming. Uh, yeah, tomorrow morning, 12 o'clock, uh, tomorrow afternoon, 12 o'clock noon, we step off from Betts Park. Parade route comes over the drawbridge up Washington Street, making a right turn onto North Main Street, ending up right back here at O'Neill's Pub and at our Guinness tent in, in the rear where we'll have a great ceremony with Irish step dancing. pipe and drum bands and all sorts of merriment, fun for the whole family. Please come out and hang out with us tomorrow. Sounds like a great time, Billy. What What are some of the floats and folks who are going to be participating in the parade? Yeah, good morning. So we have us, the Newark Fire Department, as well as our, our friends from I waiting are going to come march with us, and we have a lot of the surrounding departments from Stanford, Darien, New Canan, etc. all going to come. Uh, we also have the police and we have 3 pipe bands playing with us from Greenwich, Connecticut Fire, and the Fairfoot County Police and Fire Band. And, uh, am I forgetting anybody? We have a lot of people, all the Irish step dancers, um, we have a few floats. The PAL, North PAL, uh, Police Activities League's putting a float in, as well as the O'Neill's pub float. Oh wow, yeah, yeah, and the Guinness float. So there's the Guinness, there's a Guinness float, yeah. So come on down. It's going to be a lot of fun, big family event. It's always. A blast every year. Is there a Guinness available along the parade route? Uh, I think you have to wait till you get back here or one of the bars on the way. You gotta pop in, I guess. Yeah, yeah. So you, I know you have been part of this parade for, for quite a while now. What, uh, what does it mean to the community? Uh, I think it's just a really cool event that That celebrates in all community at large with everybody and their families and promotes the Irish culture and togetherness put on by your first responders trying to give a little bit more back to the community. Yeah, yeah, I mean, and, and what you guys do, uh, is just so valuable and, and we all appreciate what you do. I mean, really, um, it's not an easy task what you guys do, uh, day in and day out. Thank you. Thank you very much. Yeah, yeah, good stuff, good stuff. All right, so, uh, thank you guys for being with us this morning. We got the big parade coming up tomorrow in Norwalk and coming up in our next hour, we're gonna talk to the great Ollie O'Neill here about the parade and Saint Patrick's Day in general. Asia. And today we are in Norwalk and New, Connecticut's Mark Sudall has a lucky assignment. He's at O'Neill's Irish Pub and Restaurant on North Main Street for the preparations for the parade, Mark. Good morning, Asia. Yes, the, uh, Saint Patrick's Day parade here in Norwalk is coming up, uh, tomorrow, on Saturday, 12 o'clock noon kicks off from Veterans Park. It will end up here at O'Neill's. And to tell us more about it, here is Ollie O'Neill. Thanks Mark from O'Neill's. Good morning. So what's going to be going on here tomorrow? Yes, the moment. has arrived. We're expecting the parade to end right here at Pine Street and uh everyone will funnel into our tent out back, the Guinness tent, and we have a little post parade party where uh we'll have some speeches from the dignitaries and. Um, then we'll have some Irish dancing, we have, uh, bagpipes, we have live music, we have, um, which then leads into our, uh, charity event, Saint Baldrick's head shaving event where about 2020 of us are getting our heads shaved. We've raised, um, over a million dollars in the 18 years we've been doing this, but this year we're heading towards $50,000 again. And uh yeah, there's going to be a fun family event, fun, fun packed day for all the, all the families to enjoy, and you have a busy stretch coming up after tomorrow. You've got, of course, Saint Patrick's Day on Tuesday. You've got the NCAA tournament coming up. Yes, we have what we call Also a family day on Sunday which brings out the kids we do face painting and we have like a bagpiper Irish dancing and a little traditional Irish entertainment, so that's a fun day as well, but it all leads to Tuesday which is our biggest day of the year, yeah, which we really are looking forward to and. You know, it's, it's a lot of work, but I, I, I, I couldn't do it without the amazing staff. I, I want to give them a shout out. I've got a great crew here. Some of them have been with me since day 1, 28 years ago. This is our 28th Saint Patrick's Day in South Norwalk, and uh, so yeah, we're getting old, but we're still enjoying it. But you still look young. Thank you. Now this is, I find amazing. So you are one of the biggest, uh, sellers of Guinness in New England. You've got 8 taps here now. Actually, not one of the biggest, the biggest, if I, if I can boast a little bit, outside of Boston, right? Outside of Boston, yes, in New England, yeah, we're, uh, number 1 in Connecticut and New England, and, uh, yeah, we, we blow through a lot of, uh, a lot of the black stuff as we, as we call it in Ireland, yeah. Now what makes Guinness so different than regular beer? So it's it's the unique nitrogenised pour that you know it's different. It's the number one fastest growing beer again in the United States. I guess it's also very healthy and people don't always associate, you know, as far as beer goes, that it's one of the lower carb beers that is out there and it's delicious, you know.
