Every Thursday, we're taking it out to local towns and cities to showcase all they have to offer. And in this week's main street, Connecticut News, 12, Connecticut's Mark. Sudal takes us to Bridgeport and we started off at Captain's Cove, Mark. Good morning, Becky. Yeah. You know, we have so many great little treasures all across our area. And Captain's Cove here in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport is just one of them. If you've never been here, there's just so much to see and do, I mean, you know, of course, you have the, the fantastic marina here, which is right on Long Island. South boats coming and going. It's kind of cool because, you know, a lot of times what, what folks will do if they're out on the boat, you know, they, and they may be even coming from Long Island is they'll, they'll pop in here. They know about Captain Sco, they'll come in here. Uh, you know, the bar is here, you got a great restaurant, you get your lobster roll, you gotta have that. And, uh, of course, so many events that are being held here. We, we had a couple of station events here ourselves. But, uh, yeah, over the years, um, you can, uh, certainly, uh, do your parties here and, uh, kind of come and go with your friends as you wish. But, you know, uh, they, they've also done a lot environmentally here. You know, th this place has been here for 42 years and the, they really cleaned up this area. This is all weeds here at one point. And, uh, they clean this area up. Uh, they've been recognized by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and there's also a book out now about Captain's Cove as well. That, uh, as we said, it's celebrating 42 years. It talks about the, the history here, how this all came together and, uh, we're, uh, they're heading here in the future as well. So, you know, we're gonna be doing this every Thursday. We're going to different places, uh, around the state, uh, right in our communities here. Coming up later, we're gonna take you to, uh, a local brewery. We're also going to, uh, an art gallery here in Bridgeport as well. So, uh, stick around Becky. Uh, it's gonna be a fun day. Uh, yeah, lots going on down there. Those adorable little shops is a great, it's a great summer spot.

And in this week's main street, Connecticut News to Mark all takes us to Bridgeport and Berlin at a brewing on Golden Hill Street, Mark. Good morning, Becky. Yeah. Well, I'm here with Rich Ruggiero who, uh, with his brother have started this, uh, great little spot just down the hill from, uh, the courthouses up here, uh, in Bridgeport. And, uh, thank you for being with us this morning. Thanks for having me. So, uh, you kind of specialize in, in some of the check beers. Why, why is that? You were a home brewer, you said? Right, right. The Czech thing comes from, my wife is Czech. Ok. She, you know, lived here, lived there half her life and then came to America when she was 20. And really where I fell in love with beer was in Czech and their style of beers, particularly their, you know, the pills in there, which was invented in Czech, which is the biggest beer style in the world now. So our Pilsner is a Czech style Pilsner and that's our biggest beer and what I find so interesting about, uh, your spot here is that, you know, it's not just a place to come, you know, drink beer. I mean, you have some things to see here. Like, uh, if you want to show us, uh, some, some vinyl, we're bringing back some vinyl here. Right? You're selling some of these too. Yeah, we sell the vinyl. So, you know, my brother and I, we like old school stuff. Like these classic beer styles. We love music and we love vinyl. We play a lot of records at home. We play a lot of records here. So we sell all these ones. People love the records. It's great now that they're more popular than they have been in a long time. So people are into these and we get a lot of djs that come in, you know, Fridays, Saturdays, some Wednesdays and Thursdays that will spin their own collections on our turntables. All right. Well, we got to run, but before we do, I just gotta try this. And, uh, we, we got our buddy, uh, Cliff Clavin here, John Ratzenberger, you know, from the area originally, uh, sipping beer with Cliff Clavin. Not too bad. Huh? Oh, that pills is nice. Becky doesn't matter at seven o'clock. I was just gonna say it doesn't matter at seven o'clock in the morning. You and Cliffy together. I like it. All right.

Oh, choosing the art overview and looking at us. Oh, hi, Becky. Yeah. Um Just working uh on a masterpiece here. Just trying to get uh some of the gray hairs. I think I, I think I got that looks pretty good. All right, I'd like to introduce you to Katie and Bianca here at the Northern Art Guild. And so tell us when you know, when you think about Bridgeport, you don't normally think about art, but you guys have got a great thing going on here. Tell us about it. Oh, man, it's interesting you say that because both of us were so excited to find a new art community here in Bridgeport. Um There's such a thriving artist community here. Um We are actually co-leaders of the new uh Knowlton Artist Guilds. So we have a lot of exciting things that we get to work on, like curating group shows for the other artists here in the building. Um We also have a new nonprofit called Arts and Culture that's gonna go back and benefit different artists events in uh both here and in the city at large. So, um we'll do things like maybe a, a public outdoor mural painting day over the summer, things like that. So, um because there's a lot of artists in the city and it's exciting to be able to organize some community events. You're set up in a, in a historic building here and you mentioned, you know, Brooklyn as well and that art scene, I mean, um, and you guys even do some of your own work as well. Yeah. Yeah, of course, we're both artists. Um And it's, uh, you know, we're close to the city and it's nice to be close to Brooklyn. But having this artist community out here in Bridgeport has been very supportive for us both. And you're on the arts trail, right? Yes. The Bridgeport Arts Trail happens every year in November. So we're happy to be a stop there where, um, anyone can come and see our studios, um, as well as other artists in the other artist communities in Bridgeport that can all open up and share, you know what we work on.
