A Norwalk man is in custody after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's Stamford house and assaulted her.
Officers say Bhaumik Patel, 30, entered the victim's apartment in Woodside Green while she was not home, and emerged from the bedroom while she was cooking dinner.
They say when she started to scream, he covered her mouth with duct tape and caught her in a bear hug until she lost consciousness.
When the victim came to, she escaped to a neighbor's house.
Both the suspect and the victim called police to report the incident.
Patel has been charged with home invasion, burglary and assault.
