A Bridgeport contractor was crushed to death yesterday after he was ejected from an excavator. Officials say Jose Neto was killed at around 4 p.m. outside a home on Sunshine Circle. He was operating an excavator belonging to the Bridgeport Housing Authority, but investigators say they are looking into whether he was properly qualified to operate the machinery. The homeowner says she called 911 when she heard a loud bang, and that Neto was ejected from the excavator. When first responders arrived, they say they found him pinned against the house. Bridgeport Assistant Fire Chief Dominick Carfi says it does not appear the victim was wearing a safety harness.
