Police and firefighters in Fairfield are investigating a car explosion that left a man severely burned this evening. Investigators say the man was inside his vehicle, which was parked at Tunxis Hill Park, when it exploded at around 6 p.m. They say the victim ran to a nearby Little League field, which was at the opposite end of the parking lot. A game was under way and two coaches helped put out the flames as the smell of burning plastic encompassed the area. The man was rushed to a local hospital. Authorities are unsure what caused the fire, but say they are not ruling out any factors. The victim's identity has not been released, but officials have confirmed that he is from New York.
