Elizabeth Greenwood, who is blind, and Charles Fuller, who has autism, both sat down with Mayor Joe Ganim this week to discuss ways of improving pedestrian safety in Bridgeport. "As a member of the National Federation for the Blind, I bring a unique perspective to the table when it comes to understanding the unique challenges facing people with disabilities," Greenwood said. "Our goal is to help Mayor Ganim continue improving pedestrian safety in Bridgeport." Ganim said he meets periodically with members of the Connecticut Disability Coalition -- the group Greenwood and Fuller formed last year to help elected officials better understand the challenges people who have disabilities face. Ganim said the city has invested millions of dollars, in the past year, into improving pedestrian safety in Bridgeport, an investment which he says has brought pedestrian accidents in Bridgeport to "a record low." "I am so proud to meet with members of this group and to bring their vision to the forefront, and to help their voices matter -- where the rubber meets the road, literally," he said.
