Mayor Joe Ganim joined other officials Wednesday threatening to sue or prosecute United Illuminating Company, which they say has been unresponsive to their pleas for help.
Residents of the senior apartment complex at 2400 North Ave. in Bridgeport say they can't cook or refrigerate medicines and that some of their neighbors cannot even make it out of their apartments after Tuesday's storm.
They say United Illuminating Company will not prioritize buildings like senior apartments. They say the last resort will be having the fire department remove residents with the most serious health issues.
"We need to get the power back on in Bridgeport," said Ganim. "UI Company we need to get the power back on in Bridgeport. We have seniors, we have handicap individuals, we don't have the means for generators."
Officials say around 8,000 customers still lack power but they are not even sure that number is accurate.
A spokesperson for UI declined to address Ganim's specific complaints saying, "We are focused on getting the power back on and our restoration crews have been working diligently."
