The 122nd District has a new state representative after a special election was held Tuesday.
Voters in Stratford, Trumbull and Shelton headed to the polls, where Republican Ben McGorty beat Democrat Arlene Liscinsky.
The candidates were running for the seat left open by the death of state Rep. Larry Miller.
McGorty will hold office until January, when Miller's term was due to end.
Stratford's Registrar of Voters says McGorty has to take part in a primary election next month if he wants to run for another term. If he wins the election Aug. 12, he will be the candidate on the ticket in November.
McGorty will be sworn in on Friday.
