The MTA says it will be ramping up mask enforcement as its ridership increases daily.
The MTA put the mask enforcement in place at the beginning of the pandemic and started fining people back in September 2020. Violators risk facing a $50 fine.
Officials say they're reinforcing their mask efforts as ridership broke records since Labor Day and compliance levels have dimly dropped off.
The MTA says there is 87% mask compliance on NYC subways and 95% compliance on Metro-North.
It says if you see another rider without a mask on - you should not confront them and instead report it to officials.
