Metro-North to get funding restored
State lawmakers who have returned to session in Hartford are expected to pass a bill that restores funding to Metro-North, eliminating the need for fare hikes.
The state's Department of Transportation is expected to receive $25 million.
"We needed to have some additional revenue to sustain the fund, but we felt very strongly that commuters shouldn't bear a disproportionate brunt of that," says state Sen. Andrew McDonald (D-Stamford).
Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield) says it's the first time he can remember the Legislature adopting new revenues after the budget was passed, but before it was implemented.
