In a statement, her family says, "Michelle is bearing the consequences of actions perpetrated by Fotis Dulos, who ultimately took his own life to avoid prosecution for his alleged crimes. Until the trial, Michelle did not fully understand the controlling and manipulative nature of Fotis,..Fotis deceived not only Michelle but also lawyers and highly qualified mental health professionals. It is therefore unreasonable to expect Michelle to have seen Fotis Dulos for who he was when even experts could not."
