Two children who were forcibly separated from their parents and are being held in Connecticut are suing the federal government to be reunited with their parents.

Details of the lawsuit were announced Friday morning at Yale University. Gov. Dannel Malloy and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal joined attorneys in the suit in announcing the details. They're representing a 9-year-old boy from Honduras and a 14-year-old girl from El Salvador. Both were forcibly removed from their parents at the Texas border more than a month ago.

"It was kidnapping," Blumenthal said. "These children were taken from their parents through deception."

The lawsuit says the boy suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, that he "cries often," "does not sleep at night" and is "deeply depressed."

This is the first time children have sued the government to stop the separations.

A hearing on the matter will be held Wednesday in Bridgeport.

On Friday afternoon, the government rejected a request to allow the children's parents to attend the hearing.

Also Friday, Vice President Mike Pence doubled down on the zero-tolerance policy.

"We will always stand proudly with the brave heroes of ICE and our border patrol," he said.
