Milford
Animal Control, which has been helping out struggling dog and cat owners for
more than 20 years, is asking for help to restock its pet food bank.
The food
bank is run solely by
donations from the public - which are low right now.
"Certain
people... it comes between feeding your beloved pet or yourself. Sometimes
people just need that little help to get by a hard spot, so I really do believe
it's helpful to the public in general and also cuts down on people having to
get rid of their beloved pet," Milford Animal Control director Scott
Ellingson says.
He says the real need currently is food
for cats and kittens. The bank also collects and distributes treats, toys,
kitty litter and blankets to struggling pet owners.
"A lot of people will sign up and then
when their situation improves, they don’t come in anymore. But in our books, we typically have
over 100 people signed up," Ellingson says.
Ellingson says the pet food bank is open to
residents in Orange as well as Milford since the agency services the
neighboring town as well.
"We're pretty much just the intermediary of you
being able to help your neighbors that are in need," he says.
Anyone interested in helping out, can stop by any weekday from 9
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ellingson
says they also get donations sent through Amazon and Chewy.
