Milford residents responded Thursday to the Board of Education's decision to move toward terminating Superintendent Gregory Firn's employment.
Chair of the Board Cindy Kopazna says Firn coached a basketball team and taught a course at Southern Connecticut State University while on medical leave from his district responsibilities. After 90 minutes of deliberation at a special meeting Wednesday night, Kopazna reports the board decided to begin the process of firing Firn. Residents say Firn should not have taken advantage of his medical leave to pursue other interests.
School district attorneys will meet with Firn's lawyers to determine how exactly his employment will be terminated. Kopazna believes a contract buyout is a likely scenario. Until an agreement is reached, Firn will remain scheduled to return to work December 4.
