A Milford couple escaped a house fire unharmed Saturday when their neighbors saw flames and called 911, officials say.
On Fern Street, officials say the majority of the fire was put out by 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Milford's fire marshal deemed the home too damaged for safe habitation. He also says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The homeowners did not know their house was on fire until one of the neighbors saw the smoke, broke the door in and got them out.
Both residents of the home are in their 70s. One uses a walker for mobility and the other uses a cane.
The couple says they're hoping their missing cat is hiding somewhere in the home.
Officials still haven't determined the cause of the fire, but suggest it might have started in the garage.
