The Milford community will come together to honor the two Bristol police officers killed in the line of duty this year and to support the family members they left behind.
Lt. Dustin DeMonte and Sgt. Alex Hamzy were killed in the line of duty when ambushed by a gunman at a home in Bristol on Oct 12.
Countless police departments from near and far have come together to show their support for the fallen heroes' and their loved ones-- including Milford police who are hosting a Polar Plunge fundraiser at Walnut Beach tomorrow.
Milford police, firefighters and paramedics as well as community members will all take a chilly swim in Long Island Sound for Milford Plunges for Brrristol Polar Plunge.
"We know that we're going to be cold, we're going to be uncomfortable tomorrow plunging in the water. But it's nothing in comparison to what that department and families are going through," Officer Marilisa Anania says.
It's an idea that came to fruition with the help of the Milford Chamber of Commerce.
Those who wish to stay dry can head to a participating business instead. A portion of the sales from tomorrow will be donated to the cause.
All money raised from the event will benefit Fund the First.
"Years ago in Milford, we had the same thing happen to us, and our community was really there for us. So we want to be able to take that support that we felt and provide Bristol with that," Anania says .
Those looking to partake in the fundraiser at Walnut Beach can pre-register online or just sign up on location at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
