A man from Fairfield is $1 million richer tonight, and it's all thanks to a local convenience store owner.
"If I didn't mention anything, he probably would've walked out," said Tejas Patel, the owner of News Express.
The man had already won $1,000 from a $10 scratch off when Patel suggested he try a new scratch-off game that would give the man a chance to win $1 million.
"And I just said, 'Try it,'" Patel says. "And he tried it."
What happened next is what most people can only dream about.
"He gave it to me and was like 'Check this for me,'" Patel says. "I said, 'I can't even hold the ticket, it's that heavy!' He's like, 'What are you talking about?' I said, 'This is the $1 million ticket, my friend.' He's like, 'Really? Oh my God, This is unbelievable!'"
The man matched the winning number of 15 for the $1 million prize.
Copies of the legendary ticket are proudly displayed around the store.
Patel ponders if the customer, who is a regular, will give him a cut of the prize.
"We'll find out," Patel says with a laugh.
