"The Wall that Heals" mobile memorial, now in Bridgeport, honors Vietnam War veterans
Community members in Bridgeport are coming together to honor those who put their lives on the line during the Vietnam War with a special kind of memorial.
It's called "The Wall that Heals," and it's almost done being set up. Once it's set up, it will be a replica two thirds the size of the actual Vietnam veterans memorial in Washington, D.C.
The mobile memorial travels across the U.S. Their current stop is Bridgeport.
Police officers from western Connecticut and beyond, as well as local motorcycle riders, led the truck from Sherwood Island State Park in Westport to Seaside Park in Bridgeport. The truck made pit stops in downtown Fairfield, where middle school students gathered to perform the national anthem, and also Bassuck High School in Bridgeport for students to take a look.
The city of Bridgeport, along with the National Association of Naval Veterans Port Five, teamed up to make it happen. Organizers say it's the memorial's only stop in Connecticut this year.
The memorial will be open to the public beginning today at 6 p.m. through Sunday at 4 p.m.
