The Monroe Police Department received an $110,000 grant to purchase new dashboard cameras for their vehicles.
The funding will allow the department to replace their existing cameras, which are about 10 years old.
The department will also update their data storage equipment.
Chief Keith White says the new cameras will work in conjunction with officers' body cameras, so one switch will activate both.
He says the cameras have been helpful over the years.
"We are able to capture a lot of information at different scenes, different calls which works with the criminal investigations at hand or the motor vehicle accidents that you are dealing with. We have also found them very useful for the officers, a lot of time the officers will be accused of doing certain deeds and it's nice to be able to go back and see 100% what was said, what was done and how the actual situation was handled," he says.
