More than 20 Bridgeport residents were displaced Thursday after a fire destroyed their home.
The fire destroyed the top floor of the Iranistan Avenue home. Residents say they think the blaze started in a middle apartment.
Tenant Karim Din says when he realized he was trapped by the flames, he had no choice but to escape through his third-story window by hanging onto the gutter and dropping to the ground. He only suffered minor injuries.
Bridgeport firefighters quickly contained the blaze, but could not save the building. The Red Cross provided a hotel, food and clothing for the night.
?I have a little trouble breathing because of the soot, but I'm all right,? Karim Din says. ?Everybody got out alive, that's what matters.?
Red Cross officials say a second person was hospitalized with minor injuries. Investigators have not released the cause of the fire.
