MTA outlines new details on congestion pricing, including start date

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says congestion pricing for tolls in New York City will begin June 30.
The MTA says vehicles entering the Congestion Relief Zone, which includes local streets and avenues in Manhattan south of and including 60th Street, will be impacted. This excludes the FDR Drive, West Side Highway/Route 9A and the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel connections to West Street.
The toll amount will vary depending on the vehicle type, time of day, payment methods and crossing credits. The MTA says there will be discounts and exemptions to certain drivers or vehicles entering the Congestion Relief Zone using an E-ZPass New York account.
Some Brooklyn commuters say that this won't make much of an impact on their lives - they've been opting for public transportation for years.
“It’s too much like if I have to go to Manhattan or something I take the train. It’s just too much you know? Traffic, road rage and all that stuff I just try to avoid all of that," said Midwood resident John.
According to the MTA's website, the period toll rate will apply from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The overnight toll rates will be 75% less than the rates in the standard peak period.
