Emergency crews responded late Monday afternoon to a house fire on Park Avenue in Bridgeport.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. The flames and smoke from the fire could be seen from I-95.

Neighbors described to News 12 as they watched their friend who appeared to be trapped. Police say they were able to help the man escape.

Officials say multiple people have been displaced. There was no immediate word about any injuries.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
