With just a couple of weeks left of the summer season, Katch, the restaurant at Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst, canceled its remaining musical acts.
“Music is our bread and butter. We are acting through a directive from the town. We’re trying to keep our contract. We’re trying to not do anything to jeopardize that," says owner Katchlin Janawsky.
Gary Hyatt plays with the band Stagecoach.
They were supposed to perform at Katch this week.
“Venetian has always been a really beautiful, fun place to play,” he says.
Joe Ferrante, lead singer of OP Effect, had a gig scheduled for this week.
“We were surprised and bummed out," he says.
Despite what Katch's attorney says the restaurant was told, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer told News 12 that “Live music is required to be provided by Katch in accordance with our agreement with them. Live music is allowed as it is required.”
Katch’s attorney Steve Politi said that it is the restaurant’s goal, through meetings with the town supervisor and lawyers, to “bring about an appropriate and peaceful resolution.”
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
