The NAACP rallied at Stamford?s Mill River Park Tuesday, demanding the music industry end its usage of certain words in songs.
Members from the NAACP, along with leaders from local churches, participated in what's being called a "Day of Outrage." They spoke out against the entertainment industry for using certain words that they say are degrading to both women and black people.
Activists said the industry already has a code of decency, but they want it expanded. They are also urging people to write corporations and executives in the music industry to boycott artists who use degrading lyrics.
Similar rallies took place throughout the country.
In May, Stamford church leaders canceled a charity basketball game where rap star Jadakiss was set to perform. The church leaders said they canceled the event due to the rapper?s derogatory lyrics.
