The Stamford chapter of the NAACP says it wants to work in partnership with the city's police to make sure that African-American and Latino residents are treated equally by the department.

More than a dozen members of the chapter showed up Sunday at Latham Park to voice their concerns. From there they marched to police headquarters to deliver a letter stating a desire to form an alliance with the police.

Jack Bryant, the chapter's president, says in the letter that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also will ask the Stamford Police Department to review the sensitivity training of its officers.

"If on occasion [the officers] don't reach the standards that we set, there are procedures in place to review that to make corrections," says Lt. Sean Cooney, of the Stamford Police Department. "Anybody can certainly bring that to our attention."
