Officials in Connecticut are reminding drivers to slow down, especially during National Work Zone Awareness Week.
The national initiative takes place from April 11 through April 15.
National Work Zone Awareness Week has been taking place for more than 20 years.
Officials say work zones can present unfamiliar situations to everyone who uses the road, including pedestrians and bicyclists.
They say hazards can appear suddenly and unexpectedly and can endanger both motorists and roadway workers.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation says it strives to make all travel in the state safe and efficient, and that the Work Zone Safety Awareness Working Group strives to reduce crashes in work zones down to zero.
