Being drafted to the New York Mets has turned Chris Fournier from a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan into a Big Apple supporter.
Fournier, 22, was born in Boston but lived most of his life in Fairfield. Sunday he signed a contract to play for the Mets.
The Boston native said he now has a new team to route for. ?Even though it's not the Red Sox, the team I grew up watching, the Mets are now my new favorite team.?
Fournier knows baseball. His dad says that by the age of 4, his son knew how to read baseball cards. Indeed baseball was in the family. When he was about 11, Fournier?s parents opened The Batting Cage in Bridgeport. He said he went there everyday after school trying to get better.
For now Fournier will play for the Mets minor league affiliate in Brooklyn, but the self-described fierce competitor hopes to one day play in front of tens of thousands at Shea Stadium.
