A new restaurant has opened in Milford with the hope of breathing new life into the neighborhood.
Before it was Nautilus, it was Alfa's Pizza. That restaurant and bar had a lengthy run from 1980 to 2022 when the Amoratis family were forced to close when the family experienced a tragic accident in 2021.
The location on Walnut Beach also had a reputation of a place where violence occurred after hours.
After it closed, the family hoped someone in the family would step in to save the legacy, which is when Nick Amoratis stepped in. He's the grandson of the man who started it all at 54 Naugatuck Ave. with Alfa's Pizza.
Now at the same location with a new name and vibe, Nick Amoratis says he hopes this new chapter of Nautilus will bring all the good Alfa's was once known for.
"The most important thing was kind of fixing that reputation and reminding everybody that's been in Milford for as long as my grandfather first started here, we wanted to kind of fix that image because he started off and everything was very nice," he said.
They also want to give back. Nick Amoratis' co-owner Crystal Ardito-Meyer is a veteran and so they are giving military, firefighters and health care workers - active and retired - 30% off.
