Ned Lamont, a well-known Greenwich Democrat, announced his candidacy for governor Wednesday.
At 2:30 p.m., he filed the official paperwork to become the seventh person to seek the party's nomination.
The businessman gained national attention in 2006 when he beat incumbent Sen. Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary, although Lieberman later won the general election as an independent.
He also ran a failed campaign for governor in 2010 against current Gov. Dannel Malloy.
Since then, Lamont says he's been active around the state.
"I'll tell you the real reason I'm running for governor," he says. "It's because I believe in the state. I want you to believe in it, too."
As part of his grassroots campaign, he says he plans to visit every diner in the state.
