A Stratford woman says her neighbor helped rescue her dog from icy waters over the weekend.
Kathleen Barron says a sudden noise startled her collie Saturday, leading the dog to dart out of Barron's house.
She says she chased after her dog to Long Beach Park, where it jumped in and paddled for about half an hour in cold, choppy waters.
"She was so far out you could barely see her," Barron says. "It just looked so bleak."
Barron says her neighbor, Paul Petrie, ran into the water with a kayak and paddled out to the dog.
"He got her on his lap and he doesn't even know how he did it," she says.
Petrie says he was more than happy to help in the dog's rescue.
