New acting Police Chief Rebeca Garcia urged the community to come together “in the interest of moving Bridgeport forward” following the indictment of former chief AJ Perez and his personnel director David Dunn.
“This is a difficult for us, for the Bridgeport Police Department and for the city – but I ensure you that we are working together and we are going to get passed it,” she said.
Garcia is about to enter her 30th year on the force and lives in Bridgeport.
Garcia was appointed acting chief despite her recent promotion to assistant chief being challenged in court by four fellow officers. They claim the appointment did not follow proper civil service procedures.
Perez and Dunn are accused of fixing the chief exam so Perez could land the full-time position.
