Sen. Richard Blumenthal wants to keep anyone from leaving their kids in a hot car during the summer heat.
A new bill would require cars to come equipped with sensors for child seats.
The sensors would help prevent a young child from accidentally being left in a hot car.
It works by sounding an alarm once the car is turned off.
Blumenthal says the technology already exists and should be implemented as quickly as possible.
"We need this preventive measure so caregivers will never forget their child in the backseat and children will be protected against the hot weather that can raise car temperatures by 20 degrees in just 10 minutes," says Blumenthal.
The senator says about 37 children a year die after being left in over-heated cars.
