A retaining wall at the soon-to-be Merritt Village Apartment Complex is standing out in the community, but not in a good way.
New Canaan is known for its quaint appearance, but residents say a new retaining wall at the complex sticks out like a sore thumb. The reason is because it is made of concrete - not stone or brick.
The developer, however, thinks people are overreacting.
"I understand that the people think they get input on our development," says developer Arnold Karp. "I don't get a whole lot of input on what they are doing, but I think they should critique our project when it is finished."
Residents say the wall is ugly and unattractive, and doesn't suit the town.
Karp says by June there should be ivy and moss planted in front of the wall. He says he doesn't believe the wall will deter people from wanting to live there.
