? New Canaan police said their plan to prevent Saxe Middle School students from causing trouble after their last day of school was a success.
Last year, several Saxe Middle School students gathered in the town?s business district and caused problems on the final day of school. Some of the students got into fights, others smashed a store window.
Police hoped to prevent similar incidents this year by keeping students occupied, supervised and engaged in positive activities. The local YMCA set up an obstacle course in its gym and held a pool party in an effort to keep students off the streets.
In addition to the YMCA, the Outback Teen Center held a dance party and Waverly Park also threw a pool party.
?It?s just a bunch of people getting together in a good environment,? one student said of the events.
