The town of New Canaan tried to get out a message of safety to all residents with Saturday?s Resident Safety Day program.

Officials spoke to residents at Town Hall to urge them to plan and prepare in case of an emergency.

Officials told residents that one of the best tools to use in an emergency is a landline phone. Landline phones can receive and make calls in almost all conditions, officials said.

Other tips included making sure smoke detectors work and that house numbers are large and visible on the outside of homes. They also told residents to make sure they have all of their medical information in one place.
