Another candidate has entered the race to become Stratford's next mayor.
Republican Sandra Zalik had previously said she was considering a run for mayor and made it official Saturday in front of a crowd of supporters.
Zalik has lived in Stratford for 40 years and previously served two terms on the town council. She says she is a Republican at heart but with an independent spirit.
She touts her business background as an asset for the job, saying Stratford needs a business person and not a politician.
Zalik faces one opponent for the Republican nomination, State Rep. Laura Hoydick.
Hoydick is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Stratford’s current Mayor John Harkins, who is not seeking a third term.
Hoydick won a special election to replace Harkins in the House in 2010 after Harkins became mayor.
On the Democratic side, it is a three-way race for the party's nomination.
Joe Paul, Stephanie Phillips and Len Petrucelli have all announced bids.
Each party will choose their candidate next week, with the election set for November.
