Gov. Ned Lamont has signed a new state law that expands access to maternal health services.
The law creates licenses for free-standing birth centers as an alternative to traditional hospitals.
The Department of Public Health will oversee such licensing.
It also establishes a doula certification program to direct the design of a statewide program for universal nurse home visiting.
