A new COVID-19 testing site has opened at Norwalk Community College. With it being the week between Christmas and New Year's, health officials say testing is at an all-time high.
Amy Taylor, the regional vice president for the Community Health Center says they work with the city of Norwalk, the state, and Gov. Ned Lamont's team on a weekly basis.
"When the state wanted to make sure testing was available, they reached out to federal qualified health centers to see if we would partner with them and we have stepped up to that," she said.
Taylor says federally qualified health centers assess the need for testing in cities or towns where there are more positive cases.
Taylor adds that they are testing about 320 people a day at Veterans Park, so they wanted to make sure they opened a second location in Norwalk.
Currently, Community Health center has 18 locations across the state.
All the testing is free, and you can drive or walk up with no appointment.
They plan to be open seven days a week for as long as there is a need in the community.
Other organizations are increasing testing sites in other towns as well. Dennis Torres, chief health officer at Family Centers, says they have locations in Greenwich and Stamford.
