New Haven man convicted of evading responsibility in crash killing 17-year-old

A New Haven man was found guilty this week of evading responsibility in a 2023 that killed a 17-year-old.

Prosecutors say Lennell Bethea, 57, fatally struck 17-year-old Bryan Ramirez-Gutierrez near the intersection of Harding Place on Sherman Parkway.

He fled the scene immediately and made no attempt to report the crash to authorities, according to investigators.

Police identified him as a suspect during the subsequent investigation and later took him into custody.

Bethea is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30 in New Haven Superior Court.
